Balfour-Guthrie Building

About this building:

Click the images below for bigger versions:The Balfour Guthrie Building is historic in nature and progressive in performance. Originally constructed in 1913, the stone structure has hosted a variety of tenants who have configured and used the space in a number of ways. Where once stood a production machine, however, now stands a daylit design station. The Balfour Guthrie Building's most recent tenant, Thomas Hacker Architects, Inc., redesigned the building and balanced objectives for historic preservation and sustainability by including such features as a high-efficiency heating and cooling system, exposed structural elements, and an integrated daylighting strategy among others. The design has renewed the historic integrity of the building while enhancing its performance 24% beyond energy code.
